About Maya McKinlay
Maya is a warm, collaborative therapist who primarily works with young adults navigating anxiety, perfectionism, depression, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, identity exploration, and the lasting effects of trauma. She has a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing loss, including the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, shifts in identity, and other significant changes.
Using an integrative, trauma-informed approach, Maya draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based practices. She also explores the connection between emotions and the body, helping clients develop greater emotional awareness, regulation, and self-understanding.
Maya believes clients are the experts on their own experiences. She creates a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where individuals can explore concerns at a comfortable pace while receiving gentle encouragement toward meaningful growth.
Her work emphasizes practical coping skills, self-compassion, psychological flexibility, and resilience, helping clients reconnect with themselves and what matters most to them. Outside of her professional work, Maya enjoys reading, yoga, and playing pickleball.
