About Timothy Freitas

This therapist specializes in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an active and focused therapeutic approach informed by psychodynamic theory, attachment research, neuroscience, physiology, and mindfulness. Rather than addressing symptoms alone, ISTDP explores underlying emotional conflicts and patterns that may contribute to psychological distress, relationship difficulties, and certain physical symptoms that remain unexplained after appropriate medical evaluation.

Therapy is collaborative and attentive, with therapist and client working together to understand what is happening emotionally in each session. Particular attention is given to feelings, thoughts, and internal patterns that may have been avoided because they feel painful, uncomfortable, or overwhelming.

Through a supportive yet focused process, clients are encouraged to recognize and work through emotional barriers that may interfere with relationships, daily functioning, and overall well-being. Treatment is tailored to the individual and emphasizes greater emotional awareness, self-understanding, and healthier ways of responding to difficult experiences.

The overall goal is to help clients address underlying concerns, reduce distress, strengthen emotional functioning, and develop a clearer understanding of themselves that can support meaningful and lasting change.
